Favorite Scene
What is your favorite scene in Bud, Not Buddy? Explain what is happening in the scene. Select something to cite that adds to the excitement of the scene. Why did you select that particular scene?
My favorite scene in Bud not Buddy is when the dusky devastators of the great depression gave Bud an alto saxophone and he said he will be as good as them in 3weeks tops. in the scene Herman E. Calloway just found out that his daughter died and his daughter is Buds mama and Herman was crying his eyes out Mrs. Thomas was talking to Bud then she goes up to Herman , the dusky devestors come in after that. in the story it says ,"The Dusky Devestators put there money together and bought me a saxophone"(229)! I felt that this part in the book mad Bud very happy when he got his saxophone . As i read it i would be happy if i got a saxophone from a band. Ahmed D. 1st hour
My favorite scene in Bud not Buddy is when Bud learns that he has a family and ones he gets exited to go into the bad. In the scene Bud learns that he has a granddad and that he has a lot of people surrounding him. he doesn't need to find his dad anymore because he has his granddad and his granddad has him.He figures out that it's his granddad, so he is happy now so he is filled up with joy. In this scene Bud learns the part of family because in the story it says, "I didn't need to carry that doggone picture around, this little girl.Momma was kind of old when i met her too she wasn't young like this picture at all"(233). It also says," I didn't need those other things with me all the time. I didn't need them to remind me of Momma, I couldn't think about her anymore if there were a hundred hours in every day and thousand days in a week. I couldn't think of my momma any better than I do now"(234). This story tells Bud you don't need to fin your father anymore and he figures out he doesn't need his blanket anymore. My favorite scene is when, Herman E Calloway found out that bud is his grandson and his daughter died.In the scene Herman E Calloway is asking Bud where he got the rocks and Herman asks Bud what his mom's name was, Bud screams Angela and Herman find's out that he is Bud's grandfather. "Bud what did you say your mothers name was?" "Angela sir!" "Bud that's enough Herman is not your father but Angela Janet was his daughter's name." Mr.Jimmy said "Herman is not your father but Angela Janet is his daughter's name." Because you know they are related at that point, you know he is his grandfather.
My favorite scene from the story is when Herman E. Calloway & Bud find out that Herman is Bud's grandfather.
In the scene Mr. Jimmy is trying to figure out where Bud has gotten the rocks, so they ask what his mothers name is. Bud told them that her name was Angela Janet Caldwell. After Bud found out that the "Bug Bellied Freak" was only his grandfather.
Mr. Jimmy says, " Herman is not your father. But Angela Janet is his daughters name. If what you're saying is true, lord help us all, it looks like Herman might be your grandfather"(213).
I selected this part because it really reveals the fact that Herman is really his grandfather. I also liked it because it made me feel very excited and happy. I felt like I solved a mystery.
My favorite part of the book was when Bud finds out that Herman E. Calloway was his grandfather. Bud had these rocks and they were the same rocks that Herman had. Mr.Calloway got mad because he thought Bud stole them. Soon Bud explained that his momma gave them to him. Mr.Jimmy soon asked Bud what was his mom's name? Bud told him the name and it was Herman's daughter's name. He later showed, so he later showed Herman a That's why he run off like that, he got caught lying after all these years!" Mr.Jimmy said "Bud, that's enough. Herman is not your father. But Angela Janet is his daughters name. If what your saying is true, Lord help us all, it looks like Herman might be your grandfather." In the scene Bud is crying around a whole bunch of adults in a restaurant he is in Miss Tomas's arms and he starts crying out of the blue he is happy. He feels like he's home. In the text it says. "i wasn't sure if it was her lips or her hand, but something whispered to me in a language that i didn't have any trouble understanding, it said, Go ahead and cry Bud, you're home"(174). Calloway took rocks from Bud and Herman also had the same rocks tht Bud has.But Herman thought Bud stole them from the little dead girls room.Bud said no sir my momma gave me those rocks as a present.Herman asked Bud what is your mommas name was Bud said Angela,Angela Janet Caldwell. Herman was in shock and Bud said I knew it I knew Herman was my father.Steady Eddie said Bud Herman is not your father Bud said yes,yes he is sir.Steady Eddie said no Bud Angela Janet Caldwell is his daughters name(212,213). Then Mr.Jimmy asked Bud questions like,Who gave you those rocks? Bud awserd My momma sir.Then they asked, What was your moms name? Bud anwserd Angela Janet Caldwell. Shes had them all her life. Herman E. Calloway finally realizes that he is Buds grandpa when Bud screamed "ANGELA,sir." I was so mad I hadent ment to say "sir" but it came out anyways."Her name is Angela Janet Caldwell." In the story it quoted, "Man! Ever since he heard me call my momma's name Herman E. Calloway had locked himself up in his room and wouldn't come out"(214). Because Herman E. Calloway started to cry for like his first time in a while. So Bud, felt bad and happy at the same time.

My favorite part if the story is when Mr.Calloway found out that Bud is acutally his grandfather. In this scene Mr. Jimmy is explaing to Bud that his mother Angela Janet is Hermans daughters name.And that he is not Buds father. One thing that added to the excitement of the scene that made this scene my favorite is when Mr.Jimmy is saying to bud is "Bud, he's not your father , yes he is "Thats why he runn off like that after all these years."(213) I selected this citation because it is what made me shocked and saprised and more intreasted in what was going to hhapen next in this scene.
My favorite part was when Bud escaped out of Amo's shed. Bud was put into the foster home of the Amo's family they lock him in the shed for beating up ther son. Now Bud is trying to jump on the woodpile and bust the glass out of the window. So he can escape from Amo's shed. "As soon as we hit the ground i rolled as far away from the shed as i could. I smacked and whacked the hornets that had taken a ride on me and just laid there until i could catch my breath". My favorite scene in Bud, Not Buddy was when the band was making a name for Bud and the name was "Sleepy Labone". The Band members like steady Eddie and Mr.Jimmy and others named Bud "Sleepy Labone", because Bud sleeps alot and Labone is because Bud is really skinny. Mr.Jimmy said,"Let me try it out. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for coming out on this cold november night, this night that will live in history, this night that for the first time on stage anywhere, you have listened to the smooth saxophonical musing of that prodigy of the reed, Mr.Sleepy Labone!" page(196). I selected this citation because it shows how Sleepy Labone sounds and it sounds good if annouced on stage for a band and it is a awesome and cool name whitch is Sleepy Labone.
My favorite part was when Bud and Todd Amos were fighting. Tod shoved a pencil up Bud's nose so they started fighting. Bud only got to slap Tod once and Bud got beat up, but Bud still was the one who got in trouble by Tod's mom. Tod was his mean foster-brother who he got stuck with."He could kiss my wrist if he thought I was going to let him whip me up without a good fight." My favorite scene of "Bud Not Buddy" is the part when Bud becomes a member of thier band and they were trying to find a name for him. In the scene what happend is that Bud joined a band and he slept alway until the afternoon and they said wow your a real rockstar but you need a real rockstar name how about Sleepy la Bone. "Mr.Jimmy said how do you say bone in French? French always makes things sound classier. Thug said thats easy, bone in French is la bone"(196). My favorite scene in Bud,Not Buddy is when Bud cries because he felt that he finally found the right family and was home. In this scene Bud and the band were at the restaurant then Bud starts to discover things about each of the mens in the band that were at the table.
I knew that Bud was crying out of Happiness Because in chapter 14 Bud says, "I was smiling and laughing and busting my gut so much that I got carried away and some rusty old valve squeaked open in me then... woop,zoop,slop.. tears jumping out of my eyes so hard that I had to cover my face with a big red and white napkin that was on the table"(Pg173&174).
I selected this particular citation because I was glad that Bud finally felt home after all the families he had been passed to after his mom had died.

my favorite scene in bud not buddy is when they gave bud a new instrument instead of the old one that he had.
they noticed that he was working really hard so they gave him a new instrument as a sign of how proud they were.
"I told the fellas how hard you have been hitting that recorder and how proud we were of you so we put a couple of nickels together and bought you a new recorder.
I chose this scene because at that moment every thing that was bothering bud stopped and all the way from that point everything that bud wanted to happen happend.
My favorite scene in Bud, Not Buddy is when Bud puts Todds hand in warm water in hopes that he will wet the bed.
This scene is about Bud putting Todds hand in warm water because Todd got Bud in trouble and now Bud wanted his revenge. Bud got up in the middle of the night and he got a jar and filled it with warm water. He put his hand in the water and Todd wet the bed.
This part adds excitement of the scene is this "He smiled and the warm water from the jelly jar opened the little valve and... woop, zoop, sloop... he soaked his sheets (35).
This was my favorite part because Bud gets his revenge on Todd and he makes him pee the bed!

My favorite scene from Bud, Not Buddy was when Lefty Lewis found Bud walking on the side of the rode all alone in Owosso, Michigan at 2:00 a.m. In this scene Bud was walking alone in Owosso, Michigan at 2:00 a.m and Lefty Lewis stops by Bud in his car to find out who this little boy is and why hes walking all alone. Lefty Lewis tries to convince Bud to let Lefty drive Bud to his home, by giving him a sandwich. I picked this citation because, if it wasn't for Lefty Lewis picking up Bud, then i think that something bad would end up happening to Bud.

My favirote scene in Bud Not Buddy was when Bud seen Hermon E.Calaways rocks. I liked it because it kind of seem like it had a flash back in the scene. In the scene Bud finds the same rocks he got from his mom when he was a kid. But he found them with Hermon E.Calaway and they both had a suspsious feeling about them being related. When that happened it gave the reader a good feeling. Thats why I liked that scene.

I selected this part because it made me feel happy to know who my parents are and to have them in my life. Most of all I'm happy to have a home and Bud has a home now to.

Herman was in shock and Bud said I knew it I knew Herman was my father.Steady Eddie said Bud Herman is not your father Bud said yes,yes he is sir.Steady Eddie said no Bud Angela Janet Caldwell is his daughters name(212,213).

Herman E. Calloway finally realizes that he is Buds grandpa when Bud screamed "ANGELA,sir." I was so mad I hadent ment to say "sir" but it came out anyways."Her name is Angela Janet Caldwell." This was my favorite part because Bud thought that Herman E. Calloway is his dad but he finds out that he is his grandpa instead.

ReplyDeleteDuring the scene Herman asked him where he got the rocks from and he said from his mom and his mom was Herman's daughter. So Herman went into his house and started crying his eyes out.
In the story it quoted, "Man! Ever since he heard me call my momma's name Herman E. Calloway had locked himself up in his room and wouldn't come out"(214).
Because Herman E. Calloway started to cry for like his first time in a while. So Bud, felt bad and happy at the same time.

ReplyDeleteIn this scene Mr. Jimmy is explaing to Bud that his mother Angela Janet is Hermans daughters name.And that he is not Buds father. One thing that added to the excitement of the scene that made this scene my favorite is when Mr.Jimmy is saying to bud is "Bud, he's not your father , yes he is "Thats why he runn off like that after all these years."(213) I selected this citation because it is what made me shocked and saprised and more intreasted in what was going to hhapen next in this scene.

My favorite part was when Bud escaped out of Amo's shed. Bud was put into the foster home of the Amo's family they lock him in the shed for beating up ther son. Now Bud is trying to jump on the woodpile and bust the glass out of the window. So he can escape from Amo's shed. "As soon as we hit the ground i rolled as far away from the shed as i could. I smacked and whacked the hornets that had taken a ride on me and just laid there until i could catch my breath". I selected this particular citation because i think it was a interesting part of the story.

The Band members like steady Eddie and Mr.Jimmy and others named Bud "Sleepy Labone", because Bud sleeps alot and Labone is because Bud is really skinny. Mr.Jimmy said,"Let me try it out. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for coming out on this cold november night, this night that will live in history, this night that for the first time on stage anywhere, you have listened to the smooth saxophonical musing of that prodigy of the reed, Mr.Sleepy Labone!" page(196). I selected this citation because it shows how Sleepy Labone sounds and it sounds good if annouced on stage for a band and it is a awesome and cool name whitch is Sleepy Labone.

My favorite part was when Bud and Todd Amos were fighting.
ReplyDeleteTod shoved a pencil up Bud's nose so they started fighting. Bud only got to slap Tod once and Bud got beat up, but Bud still was the one who got in trouble by Tod's mom. Tod was his mean foster-brother who he got stuck with."He could kiss my wrist if he thought I was going to let him whip me up without a good fight." (pg.13-Bud thinks to himself as he prepares to fight Tod."

My favorite scene of "Bud Not Buddy" is the part when Bud becomes a member of thier band and they were trying to find a name for him. In the scene what happend is that Bud joined a band and he slept alway until the afternoon and they said wow your a real rockstar but you need a real rockstar name how about Sleepy la Bone. "Mr.Jimmy said how do you say bone in French? French always makes things sound classier. Thug said thats easy, bone in French is la bone"(196). I liked this scene because I love how Thug thinks bone in French is la bone. Also that is a cool name "Sleepy la bone".

ReplyDeleteI knew that Bud was crying out of Happiness Because in chapter 14 Bud says, "I was smiling and laughing and busting my gut so much that I got carried away and some rusty old valve squeaked open in me then... woop,zoop,slop.. tears jumping out of my eyes so hard that I had to cover my face with a big red and white napkin that was on the table"(Pg173&174).
I selected this particular citation because I was glad that Bud finally felt home after all the families he had been passed to after his mom had died.

ReplyDeletethey noticed that he was working really hard so they gave him a new instrument as a sign of how proud they were.
"I told the fellas how hard you have been hitting that recorder and how proud we were of you so we put a couple of nickels together and bought you a new recorder.
I chose this scene because at that moment every thing that was bothering bud stopped and all the way from that point everything that bud wanted to happen happend.

DeleteThis scene is about Bud putting Todds hand in warm water because Todd got Bud in trouble and now Bud wanted his revenge. Bud got up in the middle of the night and he got a jar and filled it with warm water. He put his hand in the water and Todd wet the bed.
This part adds excitement of the scene is this "He smiled and the warm water from the jelly jar opened the little valve and... woop, zoop, sloop... he soaked his sheets (35).
This was my favorite part because Bud gets his revenge on Todd and he makes him pee the bed!

My favorite scene from Bud, Not Buddy was when Lefty Lewis found Bud walking on the side of the rode all alone in Owosso, Michigan at 2:00 a.m. In this scene Bud was walking alone in Owosso, Michigan at 2:00 a.m and Lefty Lewis stops by Bud in his car to find out who this little boy is and why hes walking all alone. Lefty Lewis tries to convince Bud to let Lefty drive Bud to his home, by giving him a sandwich. I picked this citation because, if it wasn't for Lefty Lewis picking up Bud, then i think that something bad would end up happening to Bud.

My favirote scene in Bud Not Buddy was when Bud seen Hermon E.Calaways rocks. I liked it because it kind of seem like it had a flash back in the scene. In the scene Bud finds the same rocks he got from his mom when he was a kid. But he found them with Hermon E.Calaway and they both had a suspsious feeling about them being related. When that happened it gave the reader a good feeling. Thats why I liked that scene.
